Welcome to the South Easy
Happy new year! Time to celebrate at Slipjam. A chance to escape from partying in the company of people you don’t like and people you kind of like but don’t really have much in common with. A chance to party instead with folk who share your belief that any evening out isn’t complete without a healthy dose of beats and bars (in both senses of the word). On a personal level, I’m even more determined than usual to make it down cos boring practical stuff has kept me away for the last couple of months. Sitting out December was especially painful, I really wanted to check out Bobbie Johnson’s current set but for some reason my wife insisted we go elsewhere on our wedding anniversary.
Headlining this month are Normanton Street. I hope they play ‘Fly Lady’ because I like the contrast between the high and low voices and the way their main man says “I know we have different heroes” and elongates the last syllable of “heroes” in such a self-consciously ludicrous drawl. He knows these things are important for sure.
