Welcome to the South Easy
Not a lot of people seem to realise that this track is a Christmas song. In the version that made it to Outkast’s debut LP Southernplayalisticadillacmusik, the lyrics ‘where the Player’s Ball is happenin’, all day everyday‘ had replaced the original ‘where the Player’s Ball is happenin’, on Christmas Day‘. Don’t believe me? Check the clip above. Its got the Christmas line up in that piece.
Its also pretty easy to miss the festively tinged lyrics in the verses, but lines like ‘Ain’t no chimminies in the ghetto so i won’t be hangin my socks‘ and ‘You thought i’d break my neck to help y’all deck the halls‘ give the game away.
Anyway, whether its Christmas time or any other time of year, this tune is a classic.
