RIP Guru 1 Year Anniversary

Still don’t believe that Solar has answered in full for what Keith Elam went through. His time will come no doubt.

One For Ya Wednedsay #3: Fed Up Remix – House of Pain ft/ Guru [VIDEO]

June 30, 2010

Taking you back with one of the tracks off of House of Pain’s much maligned third LP Truth Crushed To The Earth Shall Rise Again. Not exactly one of the catchiest titles they came up with there, was it. I don’t think it was a terrible LP, but I’m struggling to think of many of the tracks other than this one that were on it. There was Heart Filled With Sorrow featuring Sadat X, and… er… oh well.

Anyway, I always liked the way on this track that Everlast starts his verses with Guru lyrics, and Guru starts all his with Everlast ones. I thought it was a nice touch. Anyway, if you don’t know this track, have a listen – and if you do, give it another blast. RIP Guru.

Guru Samples Tribute Mix – DJ Naiki

June 1, 2010

During my year over in Sydney, DJ Naiki was a regular behind the decks at a great deal of the Hip-Hop nights I made it to, and the dude knows his music. Here’s a mix he’s done as a tribute to Guru, mixing in original samples alongside various Gangstarr tracks from throughout their career, that I stole from Stolen Records website.

Massive shout out to Shantan and the rest at the Stolen Records Radio show over in Syd City. They had me on as a guest a few times, and it was always a pleasure. Here’s the mix.

“Superproducer” Solar’s Twitter Account HACKED. Oh Shiiiit!

May 10, 2010

Woke up this morning to find a few blogs reporting this, so I thought I’d investigate further! Just spent 20 minutes going through posts on Solar’s Twitter Account and it looks like the dirt that everyone presumed was hiding just below the surface is starting to surface.

No ideas who the hacker is, other than “she” is female, and somehow has managed to get “her” hands on all the dude’s passwords. There’s plenty of harsh shit which has been posted, including Solar fuxxing with groupies, and various emails where he shows little or no sadness that his supposed friend was suffering. All he seems to be interested in is making money off of the situation, although, if this royalty statement is 100%, then the label wasn’t exactly big balling! The leaks also hint that it was Solar who was in control of Guru’s media accounts, and was entirely happy to try and capitalise off the tragedy.

I’m pretty damn sure that more leaks will surface in the next couple of days if the hacker stays in control of the passwords to Solar’s account, so we’ll just have to see what happens. “She” mentions that there are even worse emails which, for the moment, are being held back out of respect for Guru, so its not looking good for the self proclaimed “Superproducer” Solar at the moment. Think pretty soon he’s not gonna be welcome anywhere in the hip-hop supporting world, which if this is all legit, he well and truly deserves. Anyway, read the rest of the emails for yourself HERE before all this shit gets deleted…

DJ Flagrant – Guru Tribute Video

May 7, 2010

I’ll let the press release speak for itself:

Australia’s premier video scratch DJ has recently compiled a special, one-of-a-kind video tribute to the legendary Keith “Guru” Elam.

With the help of Serato Video-SL, DJ Flagrant has cut, scratched, sliced and diced some of the best music videos and rare footage of Guru available to him. The video tribute features many of Guru’s classic music videos both solo and with Gangstarr plus there are exclusive audio/video mashups that see Guru lacing riffs from AC/DC & Stevie Wonder..

This video tribute is a testament to the outstanding legacy and longevity of such an influential artist.

This is pretty damn dope. RIP Guru.
