Quick update on week 27, as week 28 is already up and running, but another high scoring week for some people.
Highest scorer this week was Blackbelt Jones with a cracking 98pts, followed by Kormac with 92pts, and the top three completed by HP, extending his lead at the top of the table with a 75pt week.

Big ups to my man Kormac for getting me out to Dublin again. Always have a great time when I’m out there, and New Years Eve was no different. Tripod was rammed, and the crowd were loving the band. Needless to say, the night got a little messy, and I don’t think I’d had much sleep by the time I’d sat down on the plane back to Gatwick the following evening. Insane. • Koaste
Well well well. With the snow hitting England this week causing all but a few games to be called off, it seemed that only people with Everton’s Tim Cahill in their team made any points whatsoever.
Tied in third place for the Manager of the Week title are Kormac and Legs with the grand total of 17pts. Yep, seventeen. Thats how high scoring this week was. Carlos Tevez high scoring with 4pts* for Kormac and Danny Welbeck getting 9pts for Legs.
Second place with 24pts goes to Blackbelt Jonez (Leighton Baines 8pts).
But top this week, and adding to his chances of grabbing the manager of the season award is Truth. 26pts for Tim Cahill means he smashes his way through the field this week. He’s won more weekly awards than anyone else, but he’s still only in eighth place in the table.

Oops. You hesitate for a split second in this game and suddenly up to your neck in it. Twenty points is all I got this week due to taking my eye off the ball. Need a vast improvement next week if I’m planning on keeping my lead going. Top scorers this week in reverse order: Third place with 62pts was the in form man Truth (Tevez 12pts) – Second place with 63pts was Rarekind Records’ Ewan (Van Der Vaart 14pts*) – But the winner this week, with a sound 68pts was the man from over the Irish Sea, DJ Kormac (Nani 20pts*). If you don’t know about Kormac, you should go cop his album Word Play which came out earlier this year. • Koaste
Manager of the Week: DJ Kormac
So here’s a little clip of what you can expect when Kormac’s live show rolls into town. Hoping we get to see him over here in Brighton sometime in the next year.

Week seven was another low scoring week for the whole league, with nobody managing to crack the 50pt barrier. The major upset of the weekend came from Blackpool beating Liverpool at Anfield, so looks pretty likely teams will be shipping out their Merseyside based stars before long.
The manager of the week award is split between two teams that both scored 47pts. The homie Truth keeps up his good form by being the highest scorer for two weeks running, and pushes himself up to 12th place, with Alex’s incredible free kick against Arsenal contributing 14pts to his score.
Tied with Truth with 47pts also is Kormac, with Everton’s Leighton Baines top scoring with 9pts. Not a massive solo total, but enough to keep him in the race for the title in third place.
Finally, the third highest scorer this week was Herbie Dragons with 46pts – 12pts* from Didier Drogba helping to push him up the table a little into 8th.
So no change in the top three again – surely it can’t stay this way all season… • Koaste
Managers of the Week: Truth / DJ Kormac
So I’m gonna drop a little Kormac for you this week since Truth still hasn’t sent me any new stuff to play… And as this was his third weekly award, I might need some soon.
Highest Scoring Week:
Koaste – Illwood Kings: 96pts (Week 1) Manager of the Week Awards:
Truth – Gats McGhee (3)

Well, this I think is the first time since we started where we haven’t managed to post at least something in 24 little hours. Sorry about that. My excuse is that I’ve been up somewhere near Leicester at the Shambala festival performing with DJ Kormac, and after having had no sleep, waiting at a cold, closed, Market Harborough station for 2 hours from 4am till 6am when my train was due, had to then go to work in the bar till, well, about now.
The festival was a right good laugh though. I’d never heard of this festival, and it was my first proper muddy festival. I can confidently say that grey Timberlands were not the best choice, and I might well invest in a pair of wellingtons if another festival comes along soon. But fuck it, the set with Kormac and the band went down pretty well, and ended up hyping in the Kamikaze tent for Ex-Black Grass’ Carl Faure’s Warrior One crew – even though I had no idea what UK Funky and J-Step were as far as genres of music go.
Anyway, it was a great laugh. I’m off to Denmark this Friday with one half of Barenoize where I’m hyping for a gig on a boat. Should be an interesting few days. Anyway, I promise to be back on the posting-things-of-interest tip tomorrow, so stay tuned.
Another high scoring week at the top of the 273 table as the goals flew in across the land, Chelsea winning 6-0 against Wigan, Arsenal won 5-0 against Blackpool, and Newcastle won 6-0 against managerless Aston Villa. And it’s last week top three who do it again this time, except in a different order. Ewan from Rarekind Records takes the manager of the week award with 81pts, Marouane Chamakh top scoring for Lets Get It In with 20pts. DJ Kormac scored the second highest with 76pts, and yours truly, Koaste, came third with 75pts.
At the other end of the table, A much improved week sees Snuff The Ablist climb off the bottom, being replaced by Clev Cleverley. There’s still a long way to go though. Till next week, sportsfans. • Koaste
So as things go, manager of the week wins plugs aplenty, so for all your Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Downtempo, Dubstep and whatever else, head to RAREKIND RECORDS’ website, or head into the shop which is at 104 Trafalgar St in Brighton, just down from the station.
Now, this wouldn’t be the same without a video, or some music, so I’m gonna drop this vid… Ah, well apparently Ewan hates the video that I posted, so I’m gonna take it down. Here instead is the banger he recorded with 184 a few years back before he retired from the microphone:
Highest Scoring Week:
Koaste 96pts (Week 1) Manager of the Week Awards:
Koaste (1)
Ewan Rarekind (1)
Well, you know, since I organised this thang, I thought I’d better set some standards around here. Didn’t think I’d start so well though. In the end, putting my faith in Didier Drogba paid off as his hat-trick, coupled with the double points that the captaincy brings, brought me 34 points alone. Thomas Vermaelen was the only player out of my back line to concede a goal as well, and if Arsenal had brought in a better keeper, I might have smashed the 100 points barrier.
Rarekind Records’ Ewan eased into second place with a highly respectable 65pts, with DJ Kormac completing the top three on 63pts. Of course starting strongly is all well and good, but like a wise man once said (definitely not Mark Lawrenson), its a marathon, not a sprint. Roll on week two.
Solid Steel’s DJ Cheeba stars in this new advert for tipple of choice Becks Vier. Had the pleasure of meeting Cheeba at Glastonbury this year. He’s a fellow guest on DJ Kormac’s Word Play LP, so if you haven’t bought that yet, go get yourself a copy. • Koaste
Bonus: Kormac’s Scratch Party – DJ Kormac ft/ DJ Yoda & DJ Cheeba
Well, I made it back from Glastonbury in one piece, despite a ten hour return journey which included me getting kicked off a train for having the wrong sort of ticket, meaning I had to wait four hours in Bath at 5am, which as you can imagine, isn’t the most exciting place at that time in the morning.
Snoop rocks the crowd
Still, no point dwelling on that, as the festival was more than incredible enough. First up to headline on Friday night was the one and only Snoop, and he smashed it, backed by full on live band, dropping all the classics, Gin N Juice, Drop It Like Its Hot, and even bringing out Tiny Tempah for a remix of Pass Out. Tempah seems to be getting everywhere at the moment, that track especially seems to have got him some serious sway with US artists at the moment. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him popping up on a few more stateside releases very soon.
Foreign Beggars
Managed to make it to the Foreign Beggars’ midday show on Saturday, despite a pretty heavy night exploring the festival site, including the bizarre Mad Max inspired area that is Arcadia. Obviously missing the presence of Orifice Vulgatron who is currently denied entry to the UK over visa issues, which is a complete joke, Metropolis and No-Names were joined by Dr Syntax, Kyza Smirnoff and MC Zany, which was a more than capable line up. Despite some terrible work by the sound engineers in the West Dance tent, where the first twenty minutes was pretty horrible, by the time they had got around to bringing out some of their new bangers, things were much improved. Their fans were obviously going to stick with them through thick and thin though, and the place went absolutely apeshit when Seven Figure Swagger and Contact blasted through the speakers. One final word for anyone going to see them live any time soon. Watch out for the Wall of Death. Holy Shit. That was mental.
Never been a massive Gorillaz fan, but their live show on the Saturday night was pretty sick. They had a serious list of guest appearances, bringing out De La Soul, Imani from The Pharcyde, Tiny Tempah (again!), Shaun Ryder, and Lou Reed. Impressive stuff.
DJ Kormac plays to a packed Club Dada
As you might know, I was there to guest at a couple of gigs by DJ Kormac and his big band. The first of these was in an area called Shangri La, which nestles in the far corner of the festival site. So much so, that both these areas were full to capacity and closed to newcomers by the time I’d finished watching George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic (Oh my days) and DJ Craze, so I had to employ a hell of a lot of blag to get through the blockades and make it to the gig on time. The gig started at 4am, by which time Club Dada was filled to the brim, and I think the show went pretty damn well judging by the cheers at the end of the set.
Stevie Wonder: Incredible
Sunday night, there was only one name on people’s lips. At 9:45pm on the massive Pyramid stage, the legend that is Stevie Wonder stepped on stage and blew everyone away. He’s 60 now, yet his voice might belong to someone half his age, having lost none of his range or power. I really think it might have been one of the best live gigs I’ve ever seen, and if you live in the UK, I highly recommend you get on BBC iPlayer and watch it right now.
George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic
After that, there was only time for one more gig with the band at the Pussy Parlure, and then we shipped out, having packed up our tents earlier that evening, at around 3am for the journey home. When I was woken up on the train in Brighton station by a helpful woman, I was so relieved to have made it home, but the magic of the weekend will stay with me for a long time. • Koaste
