One of my homies from the 360 Physicals days has just featured on a new video. C.Monts now lives out in the Czech Republic where he’s still making good music as illustrated by this track with Nironic and friends. The highlight of this track is Johnny Youngblood’s verse though. Absolutely bonkers. In a wheres-my-straightjacket type way. • Koaste
Always good to stumble across a new female that can actually rap without having to go the Minaj/Lil’ Kim route. Spotted Gavlyn on Nova Rockafeller’s twitter feed, and she’s good. Don’t know where she’s from, but I like what she does. You can check out more music on her bandcamp page HERE. • Koaste
New video from my homie across the pond J57. He’s dropping a couple of new EP’s very soon (2057 and The Ports EP) and we’ve got a couple of videos off of those coming our way. Here’s the first, featuring Koncept. Niceness. • Koaste
I may not be as much of a Dilla stan as the next man, but real recognise real, and this track is a banger. Danny Brown jumps on an unreleased Jay Dee beat and the result is this. From an upcoming Rebirth of Detroit project. This one needs some loud play. • Koaste
Something a little bit different for this morning, as Oddisee gives a new twist to the late great Marvin Gaye’s Ain’t That Peculiar. I think it works pretty well. The new album (from Oddisee, not Marvin), People Hear What They See dropping next month. • Koaste
Here’s a new track produced by Gensu Dean featuring verses from 7evenThirty (who I know nothing about) and 273 favourite Homeboy Sandman. The fast paced and frantic vocals cascade over a wailing sample and hard drums hooked up on Gensu Dean’s trusty SP-1200. Another free download from those Mello Music guys, so help yourself. • Koaste
The Purist’s Double Feature EP featuring the verbal skills of Roc Marciano and Action Bronson is out now. You can pick up the digital version, or opt for the strictly limited edition run of 7″ vinyl with the full colour artwork. There ain’t many left, so you’d better be quick and cop that for shiggadel. This shit is heat. • Koaste
Gutted to hear that the Beastie Boys Adam Yauch aka MCA passed away last night. Grew up listening to the Beasties, and when I did eventually get to catch them live at Wembley Arena a few years back, it was one of the best live gigs I’ve ever been to. I knew Yauch had been fighting cancer, but I guess thought he was through the worst of it as I hadn’t seen any updates for a while. He also directed most of the group’s videos under the alias Nathaniel Hornblower. RIP MCA. • Koaste
