Frank the Butcher x DJ 7L – Searchin’ [FREE DL] [@FranktheButcher @BladeRunner7L]

July 27, 2012

I’m a sucker for original sample mixes like this. Part of it comes from the fact that I work in a swanky cocktail bar, where I can’t exactly blast M.O.P or Ghostface out the speakers during a shift. I can however, tip my hat to those tracks I’d normally play at a neighbour irritating volume here at Illwood Heights, by playing the original samples (Well, most of them anyway).

DJ 7L has put this one together pretty damn well. Its up there with DJ Riz’ Live From Brooklyn for sure. Anyway, if you want a copy of this, click the link and pick yourself up a copy.

Public Enemy – I Shall Not Be Moved [@MrChuckD]

July 13, 2012

You can debate their relevance all you want, but this new track from Mistachuck and the gang goes hard. Still the possessor of a voice millions of times more powerful than most new cats, he’s still able to prove he ain’t over the hill just yet.

Anik of Dark Circle presents: Cryptochrome

July 5, 2012

After disappearing from the scene a good few years ago to the wailings of the many fans mourning the loss of Dark Circle, a small but significant blip has appeared on the radar once more. Appearing, without notice, in my inbox today were these two low budget videos from one of the crews’ emcees – the elusive Anik. There’s no mistaking the trademark vocals of the former member of DJ Vadim’s Jazz Fudge roster, and he proves he’s lost none of his way with words as he drops the abstract on top of the electronic beats produced by an as yet unidentified producer.

I’ll be trying to chase up the man himself as to what we can expect from the forthcoming album these two videos are a prelude to, titled Crypto Chroma. I for one am glad that we’re gonna be hearing some more material from a long lost member of the UK scene.

Wizard x Scizzahz – Lobster Music FREE DL [@WizardBeats @BigScizzle]

July 4, 2012

I meant to post this up a few days ago when it dropped, but if you haven’t already copped this, its worth the wait. Jay and ‘Ye may keep their shit cray, but the despicable duo of Wiz and Sciz keep their shit lobster. And I know which one I’d rather listen to. Free downloads on the bandcamp site may have run out, but head over to this link here and you can still pick one up for nothing.

Nas ft/ Large Professor – Loco-Motive [@Nas @PLargePro]

July 3, 2012

Despite the high probability that Nas’ new album Life Is Good will fall into the trap every other album since Illmatic has, and contain a load of not terribly good material alongside one or two bangers, Nasir Jones keeps teasing us with these leaks, building our hopes up that this might not be the case at all. Every track thats been released into the public domain so far has been good. And I don’t mean just plain old good – they’ve been Nas-back-to-his-best good. And this one is no different. Nas spits fire on the No I.D. produced beat while Large Pro punches in the ad libs. Only time will tell whether the whole album will be as good as the first parts we’ve listened to, but at this moment, I still believe.
